Athens, February 2014
Moments of history, natural beauty, cultural heritage but also suspense and spectacular action, will be enjoyed and experienced by all those who will participate in the 13th Historic Acropolis Rally, the most famous and valuable event on the FIA’s European Sporting and Regularity Championship.
The Historic Acropolis Rally has for the last ten years featured in the elite of the European Championship in both categories, Sporting and Regularity. This year the sporting event is probably the best of the 14 rounds of the Championship with a coefficient of 3. But since each day's scores count separately, each leg (asphalt and gravel) will count as a separate rally with a coefficient of 3. This brings two rallies in one, giving 2x3 points to the participants who compete in both.
Especially for the regularity category the Organising Committee has set two additional ceremonial starts, from Verona of Italy and Bucharest of Romania, this being a tradition of the original Acropolis Rally of the 50ies and 60ies. Crews from these starting points will enjoy a more international prelude to the main event.
This year, the Historic Acropolis Rally will be held in Central Greece, in stages selected from the multitude of iconic special stages that made the original Acropolis Rally so famous. These stages, now asphalted, and will welcome regularity and sporting crews to enjoy them without incurring damages to their cars. Legendary names such as Bauxites, Karoutes, Drososchori, Pavliani, etc. feature in the roadbook.
The event starts traditionally under the sacred rock of the Acropolis of Athens, leading the crews to the heart of Central Greece (Sterea Hellas) before settling for the night in the beautiful seaside town of Itea. The next day will take them back to Athens, to end their journey at the hill of the Muses (Filopapo’s hill) in full sight of the famous Parthenon of Acropolis.
The Historic Acropolis Rally is not just another event for historic cars. It is mainly a cultural event, celebrating the extraordinary natural beauty and tradition of Greece. With spring in full bloom, scents, sights, the whole atmosphere is destined to give an unforgettable experience as the rally passes by historical areas like Delphi, providing a true historical background unlike any other in the world. And to add to this, the famous Greek Hospitality will await everybody during scheduled stops.
The 13th Historic Acropolis Rally will be held from 5 - 9 June.
We will be delighted to welcome you to Greece!
